built-up roof 1

Built-up roofing is the most widely used roofing material for roofs that are flat or nearly flat. But what is a built-up roof? It’s a roof made of several layers of asphalt sheeting with hot bitumen between each layer. It’s finished off with a coating of gravel or crushed rock, which helps reflect the heat and ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Built-up roofing is a good choice because, depending on inclement weather during the lifespan of the roof, it can last between 10 and 20 years. Asphalt roll roofing, which is another kind of built-up roofing, can last between 5 and 15 years and is one of the cheapest residential roofing methods available.
