Metal Roofing

Metal roofing is an excellent alternative to composition shingle roofing, and is typically only suited for roofs with a moderate pitch with no curves or complexities. Traditionally, metal roofs were made by skilled contractors who created the metal panels on the job site from large rolls of sheet metal. While this is sometimes still done, current metal roofs are largely made of factory-made steel panels.

The panels are formed with ridges in them, which form overlapping seams during roof installation. They come in a wide variety of factory-applied finishes that stave off corrosion and offer a number of color choices. Although it’s considered a moderately expensive roofing material, it does have a longer lifespan than other materials.

With proper maintenance, metal roofs can last between 30 and 50 years making them a worthy investment in the long-run. Despite not being totally impervious to hailstone dents and heavy falling limbs, metal roofs are considered some of the more durable ones. They also offer a unique look that other roof types don’t: their smooth, straight lines lend an industrial feeling with a modern flair.
